Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation

Office-based neuro-optometric treatment or Vision Therapy isn’t about strengthening your child’s eye muscles. The eye muscles are already very strong! It is a doctor prescribed process of retraining the brain to direct eye movements, focus, coordination and visual processing.

Through vision therapy each patient trains their brain to use the eyes more accurately, efficiently and automatically.

What is the Vision Therapy process at Dublin Vision Development?

  1. Comprehensive eye examination (by Dr. Cara or with the child’s optometrist/ophthalmologist)

  2. Specialized examination - may be completed in 1 or 2 visits (Vision & Learning, Lazy eye or Post-concussion)

  3. Consultation to discuss treatment options (glasses, prism, monitoring, vision therapy)

  4. If appropriate, the Vision Therapy Program begins

    • A typical therapy program lasts between 14 and 36 weeks

    • Weekly 30 minute office-based sessions + Nightly home reinforcement

    • Progress evaluations occur every 6-8 weeks during the program

  5. Patient transitions into a maintenance therapy program (tapering frequency of home reinforcement activities over 6 months)

  6. Final evaluation 2 months following in-office therapy program completion

  7. Patient returns to their primary care eye doctor for continued management
