<image:title>About Dr. Cara - Cara Frasco Lai, OD, MS, FOVDR, FAAO, Diplomate in Binocular Vision, Perception & Pediatric Optometry</image:title>
<image:caption>Dr. Cara earned her Doctoral degree from The Ohio State University College of Optometry, where she graduated first in her class. She concurrently completed a Masters of Science degree in Vision Science, through her study of the eye movements of children with learning problems. She then elected to complete an additional year of Residency training in Pediatric Optometry at the University of Houston in Texas. Dr. Cara was one of the first optometrists to begin examining babies under the InfantSEE program in 2005. “I feel that the opportunity to assess babies between six and twelve months of age is so invaluable that I volunteer my time for every InfantSEE examination. Prevention is key. Parents often cannot tell when vision problems are present until eyesight is lost. I am able to identify eye problems in children at risk for ‘lazy eye’ before their vision is affected.” Prior to starting Dublin Vision Development, Dr. Cara was fortunate to care for patients in Southwest Ohio for 12 years. As a partner at Middletown Eye Care, she developed the pediatric and vision therapy portion of the practice into a referral center for pediatricians, therapists and other optometrists. She served as an optometry externship preceptor for The Ohio State University College of Optometry for many years. She has served as a sub-investigator for a FDA drug trial looking at the effect of an eye drop in children with nearsightedness (myopia). Dr. Cara is a Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry. She is one of 30 optometrists world-wide to achieve a Clinical Diplomate distinction in the Binocular Vision, Perception & Pediatric Optometry section of the Academy. She serves as Diplomate Chair of the BVPPO Section of the American Academy of Optometry. She has also completed Board Certification in Vision Therapy (FOVDR). Dr. Cara is past-chair of the Children’s Vision Committee within the Ohio Optometric Association. She serves on the Ohio Advisory Board for iSee with Vision to Learn. She has served on the Vision Advisory Group within the Ohio Department of Health. She is a volunteer presenter of the RealEyes educational program at local elementary schools. She enjoys running and biking around Dublin with her 2 sons and husband, Nicky. Fellowship in the College of Optometrists in Vision Development, 2022 American Academy of Optometry Diplomate BVPPO, 2017 Dr. W. David Sullins, Jr. InfantSEE™ Award, 2013 Terrance N. <image:title>Lazy Eye - ‘Lazy Eye’ Evaluation</image:title>
<image:caption>When an eye turns, the visual system begins to make adjustments. The brain often ignores the picture seen by the turned eye since it does not match with the straight eye. This prevents the child from seeing repeated images or double vision. Unfortunately in children under 8 years of age, when vision is ignored, it is lost. Traditionally, children wear a patch over the good eye to force the weak eye to be used. Some children are candidates for two-eye or binocular therapy to not only improve image clarity but to also improve depth perception and the focusing skills of the lazy eye. Dr. Cara performs a 1-2 hour examination to determine potential treatment options.</image:caption>

<image:title>Vision & Learning - Vision & Learning Evaluation</image:title>
<image:caption>At least 10% of children have difficulty maintaining clear, comfortable, single vision. The eyes of other children do not shift across the page with efficient rhythm. Still other children struggle understanding and remembering information they see. The majority of learning is presented visually. Undiagnosed vision problems silently affect learning, since children do not know how they should be seeing. Children do not alert parents that they are seeing the text move, double or that just looking is uncomfortable. Patients referred by optometrists, therapists or reading teachers for vision therapy typically require this evaluation. Typically 2-3 hours of testing is conducted over 2 office visits. Visual skills are thoroughly evaluated to determine if a visual weakness may be compounding difficulty learning or affecting other areas of development.</image:caption>

<image:title>Sports Training - Vision and Sports Performance Training Competitive sports don’t require normal vision, they demand superior visual skills. Eye-hand coordination, peripheral awareness and reaction time can be enhanced. Athletes are always looking for the edge. Developing small improvements in visual skills make a big impact on the field.</image:title>
